Generosity as Participation
Giving is not the tax of the guilty. It is how creatures join the abundance of the God who is always giving Himself away.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8
Paul’s economics of grace is almost comical in its confidence. Almighty God is able to make all grace abound so that you may abound in good work. The goal of provision is not a padded self. It is overflow. Hoarding is a theological error before it is a budget error. It assumes scarcity in the One who feeds ravens and you.
Manna Ministry is one visible form of this overflow: food recovered, people fed, waste interrupted. But generosity is wider than logistics. It is time, attention, skill, a table, a ride, a month’s rent, a word in season. Jesus Christ became poor so that we might become rich toward God — rich enough to give.
There is a wow that hits the body when you give more than was comfortable and discover you did not die. The Holy Spirit uses that discovery to dethrone the idol of enough. Enough, as the world defines it, is a horizon that recedes. Enough, as grace defines it, is today’s bread plus today’s open hand.
If you have little, you are not excluded from this participation. The widow’s coins still preach. If you have much, you are not automatically generous; you are only resourced. The question is whether grace is moving through the house or pooling in the basement.
Do not give to be seen. Do not refuse to give because you are afraid of being seen. Give because the nature of God is gift, and you are being made like Him. That is not a burden. It is a seat at the table of joy.
Reflection
Where has ‘sufficiency’ come to mean stockpile rather than readiness for good work? What is one overflow you are being invited into this month?
Practice
Move one resource — food, money, time — toward a real need within seventy-two hours.
Thank God for a provision before you spend it, so the gift stays a gift.
If you own a restaurant, a pantry, or a surplus, ask whether Manna could redeem what would be thrown away.
A prayer for you
Almighty God, all grace is from You. Make it abound in us, not to fatten fear, but to fund love. Jesus Christ, You gave Yourself; teach us open hands. Holy Spirit, interrupt our hoarding with joy. Feed the hungry through our obedience. Amen.
Partner with Manna Ministry — restaurants, grocers, and neighbors recovering food and placing it with people who need it. This is grace made edible.
