Live the Teaching

The last word is not a concept. It is a life: the words of Jesus Christ, received, inhabited, and spent on the world He still loves.

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:24

Jesus ends the Sermon on the Mount with a distinction more severe than conservative versus progressive, more practical than inspired versus bored. There are hearers who build, and hearers who collect. The storm does not create the difference. It reveals it. Wisdom is not the accumulation of Christian sentences. Wisdom is a house that can take weather because it was built on obedience.

This journal has moved through food and streets, prayer and song, coaching and code, silence and Scripture. All of it was one thing: faith in action under the living speech of Christ. Red Letters exists so that the words are near. Ruach exists so that the words can become hands, tables, songs, and companionable presence. Neither replaces the other. Together they are an attempt to be a Church that both hears and does.

If a light in you has been dimming, this is not a finale of pressure. It is a door. Hear one word of Jesus this week and do it. Not ten. One. The Holy Spirit is not impressed by volume. He is present in the first step. The wow of a life built on the rock is not that storms skip your address. It is that you are still standing, and the standing is not your achievement.

Gratitude belongs at the end — the heavy kind, the kind that stings the eyes. Almighty God did not owe us Scripture, or bread, or a Spirit who stays, or a Son who speaks and then dies and then speaks again from the other side of death. That we may live inside such generosity is the scandal of joy.

Go. Feed. Pray. Sing. Study. Stop for the wounded. Open the app and let the red letters be first. Build something that weather cannot laugh at. The Kingdom is not waiting for a more convenient generation. It is already among you, as near as a word you can obey before nightfall.

Reflection

Which word of Jesus have you heard often and not yet done? If a storm arrived this month, what would it reveal about the foundation under your actual days?

Practice

  1. Choose one command of Christ — forgive, give, go, pray, tell the truth — and practice it in a concrete way within forty-eight hours.

  2. Tell one person what you are building on, so that hearing can become accountable doing.

  3. End each day this week with: ‘Did I hear, and did I do?’

A prayer for you

Almighty God, we have heard much. Make us doers, not collectors of holy speech. Jesus Christ, You are the rock; we build on You or we play at houses. Holy Spirit, turn these thirty-three meditations into one life of obedience and joy. For every reader, ignite the dimming wick. Let the Kingdom come in ordinary rooms. We bless Your name for grace heavier than our unworthiness, kinder than our fear, and nearer than our next breath. Amen.
